We bought 48 Swain Street in 2022, a spacious and comfortable holiday home with a splash of luxury, to enjoy family time together with our three teenage boys, dogs and friends. Previously we’d gone through a bleak patch, my husband had kidney cancer, which I’m pleased to say he fully recovered from. We received a critical illness payment which we wanted to use to create something joyful, from something quite dark. We had enough money for a deposit to buy 48 Swain Street, a perfect place for family and friends to get together and treasure time. It seemed natural that we wanted to share with others what we think is a rather special holiday home in the wonderfully quirky seaside harbour town of Watchet.
We’ve been open three years and had some amazing times in Watchet. We’ve attracted lovely guests and are thrilled that they’re enjoying our home as much as we do. We never expected it to become so popular, the positive feedback we receive makes sharing 48 Swain Street very rewarding for us.
We hope you’ll have an opportunity to enjoy 48 Swain Street and Watchet too, there’s a small selection of our reviews below.
Best wishes

Jo Manser (owner of 48 Swain Street)
Here’s a small selection of our reviews:
“We had an amazing weekend at 48 Swain Street in Watchet. We were a group of six friends staying at Jo’s house so the layout was perfect for us. The accommodation had everything we needed – each bedroom having an ensuite was an added bonus. The kitchen was well equipped and the living space was very comfortable and set out for easy entertaining and socialising. Watchet has a great community feel with lovely independent shops. We especially loved the East Quay Arts Centre. A friendly local recommended we drop into the The Esplanade Club on Saturday night where we found some great live music. We’d love to return to Watchet and would happily stay at Jo’s house again.” Mary
“What an amazing property! The bedrooms and bathrooms were just gorgeous. We are a group of 7 friends and the house was just perfect for our needs, the house was well equipped and spotlessly clean. We were in Watchet for the monthly local market which was really fun too. The sun sets were to die for and the steam train was a great experience. We would highly recommend this property and the area.” Sonia
“We loved our stay! The rooms were all incredibly comfortable and immaculate. Everything about the place is really well thought out and of the highest quality. Can’t recommend the place highly enough, thank you. Anyone visiting who likes a cider must visit Pebbles, just around the corner. Great place with the kind of atmosphere you just don’t get in most pubs these days. Had a lovely breakfast at Chives, just down the road.” Phil
“Fantastic property in a great location with a lovely host. Jo was always responsive and helpful. The house is amazing – lots of space, beautifully furnished and extremely well-equipped; really great for a group. Watchet is a lovely place from which to explore the stunning coast and countryside, and this is the place to do it from.” Gillian
